The Romanian Geoexchange Society (SRG) is representing Romania to the European Geothermal Congress (EGC), taking place between 6-10 October in Zurich, the most important continental event dedicated to geothermal energy, held every three years under the aegis of the European Geothermal Energy Council (EGEC).

'At the Zurich Congress, the Romanian Geoexchange Society is presenting the National Country Update 2025 on the development of Romania's geothermal sector, prepared in collaboration with experts and partners from academia, local authorities and the energy industry. The report provides an updated overview of the evolution of Romania's geothermal resources, current projects underway and their contribution to meeting the decarbonisation targets set by the European Green Deal,' SRG President Horia Ban told AGERPRES on Tuesday.

The event brings together over 800 specialists, researchers, government representatives and decision-makers from more than 40 countries, providing a unique platform for experience-sharing and cooperation in the geothermal area - both for shallow and deep applications.

The Congress is chaired by Miklos Antics, President of EGEC, originally from Oradea, who moved to France 30 years ago. EGEC is an international non-profit organisation, founded in 1998, which promotes the geothermal industry across Europe and globally.

Romania is represented at the Congress by a delegation from the Romanian Geoexchange Society, including President Horia Ban, Vice-President Doinita-Iuliana Cucueteanu, Development Director Alexandra Ban and Director for European Projects Iulia Prodan.

The participation of SRG in the European Congress is a natural continuation of the dialogue initiated at the 'Budapest Geothermal Energy Summit' (September 2025), where President Horia Ban was invited as a speaker to the panel on regional cooperation and financing of geothermal projects in Central and Eastern Europe.

The SRG delegation will also participate in dedicated sessions on the modernisation of geothermal district heating systems in Oradea, Beius and Salonta; the development of new geothermal and hybrid heat pump applications in public and residential buildings; and on vocational training and qualification of specialists within European LIFE-CET projects such as "Re-Energize," "Cooling Down," and "GeoInnovatePILE," coordinated by SRG and its partners from Norway, Italy and Greece.

Through its presence at EGC 2025, the Romanian Geoexchange Society reinforces its role as a key organisation in promoting and integrating geothermal solutions in Romania, contributing actively to strengthening the country's position within the European network for research, innovation and professional training in the geothermal energy sector.

Founded in 2004, Geoexchange is the professional organisation promoting the responsible and efficient use of shallow geothermal resources in Romania. A member of the European Geothermal Energy Council (EGEC) and part of the European Centres of Excellence for Shallow Geothermal Energy network, SRG carries out research, training, and dissemination activities through European projects and strategic partnerships aimed at facilitating the clean energy transition.
