The Romanian Intelligence Service (SRI) strongly condemns attempts to denigrate the institution, and SRI head Eduard Hellvig assures the citizens of Romania the agency is not involved in any kind of power games, SRI said in a release this Monday, informs Agerpres.

The SRI Board of Directors issued this statement in response "to the latest events and public statements".

"It is regrettable that attempts are made to get the Romanian Intelligence Service ensnared in speculations through false statements, ungrounded allegations and by the defamation of Service staff. SRI strongly condemns these attempts to denigrate the institution and assures its internal and foreign partners that it will remain anchored in the missions that concern exclusively national security. SRI Director, Mr. Eduard Hellvig assures all Romanian citizens that the institution stays away from power games of any kind and all political debate, and is determinedly engaged in joint efforts to preserve national security," the release states.
