The Minister of Health, Alexandru Rafila, said on Friday, referring to the bribes given in health units, that the blame should not be extended to the entire medical staff.
"I think that a conclusion at the end of this debate must be the one related to the way in which we approach in the public space, how we behave, how we use the professional bodies that encourage a clean professional practice without conditioning, without receiving undue benefits and which does not lead to the public blaming of the medical body unjustly, because, very often, these things that happen and which are penalized by the Justice extend to the medical body. We must not extend the blame to the entire medical body. It is not right to be so, but the cases that are blatant must be sanctioned both from a criminal point of view and from a moral point of view. I think that this must actually be the conduct that can also lead to an increase in the quality of medical services that are addressed to patients," said Rafila, agerpres reports.
The minister of Health participated in the "Professional conduct induces respect for the medical body, not simple membership of this guild. The role of professional organizations" round table.
In his opinion, the topic of bribery in hospitals is a "difficult, delicate" one, but we will not reach "normalcy" if such topics are not addressed and a process is not generated, considering that the change in mentality takes place over time.
"First of all, this debate and change in mentality must be clear to everyone that it is not against doctors. It is for doctors to carry out their work in a framework of respect from society, which is absolutely normal, natural, and this manifests itself towards the vast majority of health professionals and it must be carried out for the benefit of patients," Alexandru Rafila said.
