The National Museum of Romania's History will celebrate the European Heritage Days on Friday, on which occasion the public will be presented with the new archaeological discoveries made in the second half of July at the site 'The Tumulus Necropolis of the Ancient City of Callatis.'
According to a press release the National Museum of Romania'S History (MNIR) sent to AGERPRES on Monday, the event will include: a session of brief presentations on the new archaeological finds, a press conference and the opening of a micro-exhibition in which the recently discovered pieces will be temporarily displayed.
Experts will provide further details about the new artefacts that have entered the museum's collection, their discovery context, as well as the investigations and restoration-conservation activities required for the archaeological items to become museum exhibits.
Access for the media and the public will be free, with the detailed programme of the event to be announced in the coming days on the museum's social media pages.
The new archaeological discoveries from Callatis are unique within Romanian archaeology and are also extremely rare in Antiquity in general, namely, gold and silver vessels dating back to the early 3rd century BC. Such artefacts have until now only been identified in the most lavish ancient tombs, such as those at Vergina (in Northern Greece), attributed to the family of Alexander the Great, or that of the Thracian king Seuthes III (in Bulgaria).
