The Romanian Railway Safety Authority (ASFR) identified, following the inspection carried out at Metrorex, a series of deficiencies and applied sanctions and imposed clear measures, with firm deadlines, announced on Wednesday the Minister of Transport, Ciprian Serban.

"The safety of metro passengers is a priority! As I promised, I will keep you updated on the situation at Metrorex. Many of the reports I received were confirmed. Following the inspection, the Romanian Railway Safety Authority (ASFR) identified a series of deficiencies: 49 technical failures in July alone; trains in circulation with fewer attendants than required by the contract; unauthorized personnel involved in traffic safety activities; serious violations in the employee training process. Sanctions were applied and clear measures were imposed, with firm deadlines," the minister wrote on his Facebook page.

According to him, ASFR also proposed the development of a draft order by the Minister of Transport, to improve control over the way in which Metrorex personnel responsible for passenger safety are trained.

"We will closely monitor how the measures are implemented. People's safety is not treated superficially. Whoever does not respect the rules will be held accountable. And for those in the Metrorex offices, I only say this: before the increases for underground work, think about the conditions in which the traveling public circulates," Ciprian Serban said.
