Number of vacancies down by more than 8000 in Q3 YoY

The number of job vacancies stood at 31,600 in the third quarter of this year, an increase by 300 against the previous three months but a decrease by 8,300 against the same period last year, according to data released by the National Institute of Statistics (INS) on Wednesday.

The job vacancy rate was estimated at 0.62%, slightly up (+0.01 percentage points) compared to the previous quarter but down by 0.16 percentage points compared to the third quarter of 2024.

The highest job vacancy rates were recorded in the production and supply of electricity and heat, gas, hot water and air conditioning (1.99%), public administration (1.10%), and transport and storage (1.07%). Almost a fifth of the total number of job vacancies was concentrated in the manufacturing industry (6,000 vacancies), and the rate was 0.57%.

The budgetary sector accounted for about 23% of the total number of job vacancies. Thus, 3,000 vacancies were found in public administration, 2,800 in health and social assistance, and 1,500 in education.

On the other hand, the job vacancy rate recorded the lowest values in other service activities (0.16%), followed by the extractive industry, hotels and restaurants, and real estate transactions (0.19% for each).

The fewest job vacancies were found in real estate transactions (30 vacancies), followed by extractive industry and other service activities (100 vacancies each), respectively hotels and restaurants and agriculture, forestry and fishing (500 vacancies each).

Compared to the previous quarter, the most significant increases, both in terms of the rate and the number of job vacancies, were recorded in the production and supply of electricity, heat, gas, hot water and air conditioning (+0.36 percentage points, respectively +200 vacancies), respectively in education (+0.16 percentage points, respectively +600 vacancies).

At the opposite side of the scale, the most relevant decreases in the job vacancy rate were recorded in entertainment, cultural and recreational activities
(-0.16 percentage points), hotels and restaurants (-0.15 percentage points), and public administration (-0.08 percentage points).

Regarding the number of job vacancies, the most pronounced decreases were found in hotels and restaurants (-400 vacancies), wholesale and retail trade; repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles (-300 thousand vacancies), and public administration and construction (-200 vacancies for each).

Compared to the same quarter of the previous year, the most relevant increases in the job vacancy rate were recorded in the production and supply of electricity and heat, gas, hot water and air conditioning (+0.35 percentage points), in professional, scientific and technical activities (+0.23 percentage points), respectively in transport and storage (+0.16 percentage points).

Regarding the number of job vacancies, higher increases were noted in transport and storage, respectively in professional, scientific and technical activities (+400 vacancies for each).

At the opposite side of the scale, the most relevant decreases in the job vacancy rate were observed in entertainment, cultural and recreational activities (-0.59 percentage points), public administration (-0.53 percentage points), water distribution; sanitation, waste management, decontamination activities (-0.52 percentage points), respectively education (-0.47 percentage points).

The number of job vacancies experienced the most significant decreases in manufacturing (-2,000 vacancies), education (-1,700 vacancies), public administration (-1,500 vacancies) and wholesale and retail trade; repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles (-1,200 vacancies).
