Romania has everything it needs to succeed in the area of digitalization because we have a well-represented industry, but before we digitalize we must debureaucratize, simplify, otherwise we will have digitalized chaos, declared Deputy Prime Minister Oana Gheorghiu on Tuesday, during a specialized event.
"Romania has everything it needs to succeed. We have a well-represented industry in the digital area. It's a good start to digitization, even if it's very fragmented. We have something to build on, but coordination is needed and I hope I can at least manage to put that brick that's not visible in this one. I hope we can also create a team as soon as possible. That will help us move forward. I also have the debureaucratization area in my portfolio, which is very much related to digitalization. There we want, before we digitize, to check the processes, to simplify. If we digitize the chaos, we will have a digitized chaos," said Oana Gheorghiu, agerpres reports.
She proposed, during her government mandate, to form a team to strategically coordinate digitalization at the country level.
"We are talking about fragmentation and lack of coordination in the area of ??digitalization. I hope that in this mandate we will be able to find a way to bring all the actors to the table and create something much more strategic than has been possible so far," the deputy prime minister said.
According to her, through the governing program, all coalition parties have assumed digitalization.
"I strongly believe that this can be done, but we all have to sit down at the table because there is no command center where everything is centralized, checked to ensure that there is no duplication, that there is no conflict. There must be interoperable platforms, if we make the decision to centralize the process," explained Oana Gheorghiu.
Deputy Prime Minister Oana Gheorghiu participated in the panel "The Future of Digital Governance in Romania: a Vision for the Citizen" as part of the Digital Governance Summit 2025.

According to the organizers, the Cotroceni Summit is not just a conference, but a call for collective responsibility between the state, the private sector, academia and civil society because the digitalization of administration does not just mean technology, but the state's capacity to respond efficiently to the needs of citizens.
During the event, the Edge Institute x AtlasIntel Study will also be launched, which shows what Romanians think about the digitalization of the state: where there is trust, what are the priorities of Romanians and what they expect from the digital administration of the future.
