Romanian employees are increasingly feeling the uncertainty about their professional and financial future, amid the economic uncertainties affecting companies, with over 47% of them being worried about income instability, reveals a survey conducted in October 2025 on a sample of 1,025 respondents nationwide.

According to the survey, 45.5% are afraid of possible measures of the company for which they work in response to the economic context, and 40.2% feel that they can no longer maintain a healthy balance between work and personal life.

"Working at the office, interacting with managers and coworkers and breaks during working hours are for many employees a source of stability that contributes to reducing stress, increasing motivation and better separation between work and leisure," according to the survey conductors Genesis Property.

The biggest sources of stress at work for Romanian employees are insufficient income in relation to the rising cost of living (54.8%), high workload (41%), coworkers with a negative attitude (29.4%), and also the relationship with managers and leadership seen as deficient in such periods of uncertainty (25.7%).

Working at the office and moments of relaxation and socialisation at the office take on a new meaning, bringing more security and stability at work for many of the survey respondents. Thus, for seven in ten employees, short breaks for relaxation contribute the most to emotional balance at work, followed by socialising with coworkers (50.9%) and walking in areas near the office (29.1%).

"In a climate marked by anxiety and change, the office once again becomes a landmark of balance and emotional security. It is more than a place to carry out professional activity, it is a space that offers people stability, meaning and a form of mutual support, especially in times when uncertainty about income, career or social context are major sources of stress. The office brings rhythm, authentic relationships and the feeling that you belong to a common goal. And that has a profound value, difficult to quantify, but essential for the well-being and collective energy of an organisation," said Elena Panait, Head of Leasing & ComYunitY at Genesis Property.

According to the survey, the office thus remains a pillar of stability for many employees.

"For 35%, the office is the solution to better separate personal and professional life, and almost 28% say that socialising with coworkers at the office helps them reduce stress related to professional prospects. About 27% feel more connected to the team and to the changes in the company when working in the office and, at the same time, they are more motivated and efficient in their work. Thus, working in the office helps employees be less stressed out about job stability, team relationships and future prospects," the survey reveals.

That is why more than 75% of the employees in the Genesis Property survey say that they prefer to work at least two-three days a week from the office.

Flexibility remains an essential component in this situation, with flexible working hours adapted to employees' needs being mentioned by most (63.6%) on the list of facilities and benefits that employees would like at the office to be more relaxed and connected with their colleagues.

Following on the list are short and regular breaks for recharging (38.7%), modern office design, with natural light, ergonomic furniture and spaces that suit personal needs (36.42%), social areas and green spaces for outdoor recreation (30.2%) and trainings and workshops for both professional and personal development (32.7%).

At the same time, among the favourite social activities at the office, going out for coffee or during breaks with coworkers are among the favourites (38.7%), followed by lunches or themed meals with the team (32.2%) and celebrating special moments such as team achievements or birthdays (29.1%).

The survey, conducted by Genesis Property, looked at how office life plays out in the current social and economic context and how the role of the office is perceived by employees. The survey was conducted in October 2025, nationwide, through the iVox platform, on a total sample of 1,025 internet users in Romania. Almost 47% of the participants are female, and over 53% have a net income of at least RON 5,000.
