Romanian player Ovidiu Ionescu won the silver medal in the European table tennis men's singles championships in Alicante (Spain) on Sunday, after being defeated by the famous German player Timo Boll 4-1 (6-11, 11-7, 11-9, 11-6, 11-5).
Ovidiu Ionescu brought the only medal of the Romanian delegation at the European championships in Alicante.
Ionescu also has a European bronze medal, won at mixed doubles in 2016, along with Bernadette Szocs.
Romania's latest medal in men's singles at European championships was won by Adrian Crisan, bronze, in 2012 in Herning (Denmark).
