Notable figures in various fields who want and can contribute to the promotion of the macro-region and especially of the Danube Strategy at European, national and local levels received on Monday the honorary title of "Special Ambassador of the Danube Region" from the Honorary International Department "Jean Bart" to support the EU Strategy for the Danube Region (CIO-EUSDRD), a project founded in partnership with the Romanian Academy in 2012.
"What we do in scientific research - we make a contribution to this regional development in the Danube Region. (...) It is a very important thing [Romania's position], because apart from the regional policy that is conceived at EU level, the regions generally identify themselves and make efforts together, and it is well known that the Nordic countries organize themselves and promote their interests within the EU. The Danube Region is starting to take the shape of a region acting coherently. Let us develop in absolutely all areas," said academician Nicolae Zamfir.
"We ultimately aim to increase the quality and improve the lifestyle mentality. Innovation is not just an end in itself. (...) In practice, we have established this title. Among the laureates there were important personalities from the entire EU. The title of Special Ambassador of the Danube Region is not really an enviable, payable function but an honorary function trying to interconnect more the civil society and the public and business decision makers," Sever Avram, Europa Eurolink House Representative, said.
"It is an exodus. In Romania a one-way road has been created. Not only the elites are leaving. The people of trade have started to leave and I do not know who will remain. We are talking in vain about start-ups, research institutes, technology transfer. We are 100 years after the Greater Union and I strongly believe that in society a message should arrive, that the future exists, so that we can keep people here," said Ilfov County Council President Marian Petrache.
The event took place on the sidelines of the National Forum of the EU Strategy for the Danube Region, organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
