The Prefect of Vaslui County, Daniel Onofrei, will issue an order early next week suspending Dumitru Buzatu as president of Vaslui County Council, if the conditions are met.

"According to the legal provisions and procedures stipulated in the Administrative Code, the Government representative in the territory has the power to uphold the law in situations where all procedural conditions are met. In this case, the prefect must issue an order suspending the president of the County Council if the conditions are met. The Prefecture has no involvement in tenders and contracts concluded by the County Council. Our role is to check the legality of the administrative acts of the County Council, local councils and mayors to ensure that they are in accordance with the law. So far, there have been no problems in this regard and we ensure that we continue to perform our duties objectively and impartially," Daniel Onofrei told AGERPRES.

The prefect did not wish to comment on the ongoing investigation.

"We would like to stress that this is an ongoing investigation and that our institution does not comment on this matter. We have not received any referral in this regard. As an institution responsible for law enforcement and protection of public interests, the Vaslui Prefect's Institution is committed to acting in accordance with the principles of the rule of law and to ensure respect for the law in all areas of competence. We want the local administration to work for the benefit of citizens and provide quality services," the prefect added.
