The relationship between Romania and Germany is based on three clear pillars: innovative investments, safety and security, support and cooperation in communities, the President of the Senate, Mircea Abrudean declared on Thursday.
"In these tense moments at a global level, you remind us that freedom, courage and solidarity can transform continents and change destinies. For Romania, the relationship with Germany is one of the most solid and important. Germany is our main economic partner, with trade that exceeded 35 billion euros in 2023, with over 24,000 German companies active in Romania, which bring value, create jobs and offer technological transfer. And we are not just talking about numbers, but about success stories of a community that develops through collaboration with vision and trust", Abrudean told the reception organized on the occasion of the Day of German Unity.
He said that the present of the relationship between the two countries is important, but also "the future sounds good".
"The future of the Romanian-German relationship means joint projects in energy, innovation and education. We can view all these directions not as opportunities, but as necessities for the growth of our strategic partnership and our friendly relationship", added Abrudean.
The president of the Senate highlighted that "Romania and Germany are reliable allies".
"Romania is located on the eastern border of Europe and knows firsthand the security challenges generated by the hybrid war in our neighborhood. In these times, Germany's support is vital. From the Eurofighter Typhoon aircraft of the German air force, which ensure the protection of Romanian airspace, to the investments of German companies in the defense industry, each gesture sends a clear message: European solidarity works", mentioned Mircea Abrudean.
According to him, another important objective that links the two countries is Romania's accession to the OECD.
"Germany supports this path and we know that success in this endeavor means a more transparent, more attractive and stronger Romania. For German investors, but also for the entire European community, this step will bring stability and trust. For Romania, this support matters a lot. Joining the OECD is Romania's most important national objective, after joining NATO and the European Union," Abrudean mentioned.
"If I were to define the relationship between our countries, I would say that it is based on three clear pillars: innovative investments, safety and security, but also support and cooperation in our communities. On these foundations, Romania and Germany can build together not only a sustainable diplomatic relationship, but also a stronger European future," added the Senate president.
He thanked Ambassador Angela Ganninger for her "friendship and involvement" in supporting the relationship between the two countries.
