Romania's retail turnover (except for trade in motor vehicles and motorcycles) increased by 8.1% in unadjusted terms in the first six months of 2024 compared to the same period last year, and by 7% in workday and seasonally adjusted terms, according to a press release of the National Statistical Institute (INS).
The increase as unadjusted series was due to the increase in sales of non-food products (+13%), the retail sale of motor fuels in specialized stores (+5.5%) and sales of food, beverages and tobacco (+3.9%).
On an adjusted basis, the increase of 7% was due to higher sales of non-food products (+11.8%), retail sale of automotive fuel in specialized stores (+4.8%) and sales of food, beverages and tobacco (+3.2%).
In June 2024, compared to the previous month, turnover in retail trade (except for the retail sale of motor vehicles and motorcycles) increased overall by 0.9% in June 2024 as unadjusted series, on account of an increase in retail sale of motor fuels in specialized stores (+5.7%) and in sales of non-food products (+0.3%). Sales of food, drinks and tobacco fell by 0.8%.
As workday and seasonally adjusted series, turnover in retail trade increased overall by 1.9%, due to the growth recorded in retail trade of motor fuels in specialized stores (+4.4%), sales of non-food products (+1.9%) and sales of food, beverages and tobacco (+0.1%).
