Romania suports projects developed on sidelines of China ”16+1” cooperation mechanism

Romania wants to consolidate its position within the "New Silk Roads" initiative, as well as to support projects developed on the sidelines of the China +16 cooperation mechanism, according to a press release sent by the Ministry of Business Environment, Commerce and Entrepreneurship (MMACA).

Continuing the endeavors of consolidating Romania's position in the 16+1 cooperation format within the "Belt and Road" initiative, launched by the Chinese Government, was the topic that was put forward by the state secretary of the relevant Ministry, Paula Pirvanescu, at the "China Investment Forum 2018", organized during the period of October 15-17 in Prague, on the sidelines of the China - Central and Eastern Europe Cooperation Mechanism, according to Agerpres.

State secretary Pirvulescu had, on this occasion, a series of official meetings with representatives from the Government of the Czech Republic, with the Czech-Chinese Cooperation Chamber, CITIC Group (China), PPF Group (Czech Republic), Bank of China, the Chamber of Commerce of the Czech Republic. Furthermore, the Romanian official had a round of discussions with the CEO of CzechInvest - Investment and Business Development Agency, Silvana Jirotková, for carrying out mutual partnerships regarding commercial changes and investments between Romania and the Czech Republic.

The topics within the event were also focused on fields that can boost the multilateral dialogue and regional cooperation with the People's Republic of China, as regards the stimulating of the commercial bilateral exchanges and the Chinese investments. There were also addressed the directions of interest to developing economic relations in the "16+1" cooperation format and in the "New Silk Roads" initiative.

The "New Silk Roads" initiative ("The Silk Road Economic Belt" and "Maritime Silk Road") have as an objective the connectivity and cooperation between the People's Republic of China and countries from Eurasia, mainly, but also countries on the entire route that tie China to Europe. The "16+1" format is China's initiative, which is aimed at intensifying and extending its cooperation with 11 member states of the European Union and 5 Balkan countries in the areas of investments, transportation, finances, science, education and culture. Within the initiative, China defined three main areas of economic cooperation, namely infrastructure, high technology and green technology.
