Exploring alternative rail trade routes between Europe and Asia involving Romania and Türkiye, as well as increasing the number of flights between Bucharest and Istanbul are one of the two topics discussed on Wednesday by Transport and Infrastructure Minister Ciprian Serban with his Turkish counterpart Abdulkadir Uraloglu.
"Today I welcomed the Transport Minister of Türkiye, Abdulkadir Uraloglu. I presented to my Turkish counterpart the development opportunities and strategy in the transport area, on all 4 sectors: maritime, air, road and rail. At the same time, I reiterated the major importance of the collaboration between the two countries at economic, commercial and strategic level. I focused on the shared interest objectives: identifying some alternative rail transport routes between Europe and Asia involving Romania and Türkiye; the maritime transport component on Constanta-Karasu route, which provides a safe and competitive alternative, including for road freight between Türkiye and Central and Eastern Europe; capitalizing on Romania's Schengen membership as of 1 January 2025 and increasing the number of flights between Bucharest and Istanbul for the designated airlines of both sides," Cipian Serban wrote on his Facebook page, agerpres reports.
According to the quoted source, on this occasion, the Turkish Minister of Transport proposed the establishment of a bilateral working committee in the maritime area. In his view, the Port of Constanta is the most attractive port at the Black Sea and the facilities should be capitalized on, especially in this geopolitical context.
"The talks on Romania-Türkiye cooperation continued in the presence of Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan. The Prime Minister underscored that the economic partnership is one of the strongest pillars of our cooperation, and Türkiye is the most important trade partner outside the EU. In 2024, trade exchanges exceeded 10 billion EUR, with Türkiye being the first destination for Romanian exports outside the EU," Serban also said.
