Energy efficiency and carbon footprint reduction, infrastructure development, but also increasing air traffic despite the problems facing the European aviation market are the topics on the agenda of the National Civil Aviation Conference taking place Thursday and Friday in Poiana Brasov with the participation of Romanian airport directors.
"We discuss increasing traffic, infrastructure development, the new relevant regulations and cooperation to ensure security, so as to offer passengers the best possible experience. A very important topic on the agenda is the reduction of carbon emissions - we have all committed to zero carbon emissions by 2050 - and there are two very important projects of the Transport Ministry. One of them consists of financing for photovoltaic parks, and I hope that by next year we all become energy independent; a second project is related to upgrading airport equipment to energy-efficiency," the president of the Romanian Airports Association (AAR) David Ciceo told AGERPRES.
According to him, airport directors are counting on the further increase in air traffic this year and the alleviation of the problems related to aircraft shortage on the market.
"There are currently not enough aircraft on the market and there's a problem with Airbus aircraft engines, deliveries of Boeing aircraft are delayed, but this year the problem will subside and we hope that air traffic will continue to grow. There are still problems across Europe related to the new aviation taxes in Germany, which could slightly reduce traffic and affect flights from Germany to Romania," said David Ciceo.
According to data released by the Romanian Airports Association, passenger air traffic at Romanian airports increased in 2024 by almost 6% compared to 2023 and 12% compared to 2019.
