The Romanian Government is working hard on preparing the Romanian Presidency of the Council of the European Union, Minister-delegate for European Affairs Victor Negrescu said at a meeting of a council in charge with this subject.
According to a press statement released by the Foreign Affairs Ministry (MAE), Negrescu attended the third meeting of the Interministerial Council for the Preparation and Exercise of the Romanian Presidency of the Council of the European Union, which convened at Victoria Palace under the leadership of Prime Minister Mihai Tudose.
The meeting highlighted the progress made in the last weeks, and guidelines needed to continue the organisation of the Romanian presidency of the EU Council were completed.
"Let me assure you that Romania is on schedule with all the components of the preparation of the presidency. The entire Government is hectically working on organising this important moment for our country's future path in the European Union," Negrescu said.
At the meeting, Romania's Parliament Palace was chosen as a venue for working meetings to be hosted by Romania during the first six months of 2019. The adoption of this decision was based on a proposal analysis of buildings that meet organisational criteria and have the amenities required by EU Council standards.
Also discussed were the organisation chart and the exercise by Romania of the presidency of the EU Council, a mechanism for cooperation between Parliament and the Government in the field of European affairs, a mechanism for cooperation with the European Parliament and the first version of the schedule of informal meetings to be held in Romania during its six-month presidential tenure.
"By the decisions adopted and by the constancy of its meetings, the Interministerial Council for the Preparation and Exercise of the Romanian Presidency of the Council of the European Union reconfirms its capability of ensuring the political guidance needed to manage such a strategic national project."
