Romanian tennis player Simona Halep, WTA's 5th, qualified for the quarter-finals of the WTA tournament in Stuttgart, with prizes worth 710,900 US dollars, after defeating Barbora Strycova (the Czech Republic), with a score of 6-2, 6-3.
Halep (aged 25), seeded 4th in the tournament, closed the game after one hour and 14 minutes, defeating WTA's 17th. Halep has 3-1 direct events with Strycova, whom she defeated in 2014 in Beijing, with a score of 6-1, 6-4 (first round) and in 2016, at Indian Wells, with a score of 6-3, 1-0 when Strycova dropped out the round of sixteen. The Czech player managed to score just one victory against Halep, in 2010 in Paris, when she defeated the Romanian national in the round of sixteen with a score of 6-1, 6-4.
Simona Halep secured 100 WTA points, and in the quarter-finals she will face off the winner of the event between Johanna Konta (WTA's 6th), who defeated Naomi Osaka (Japan) with 7-6 (5), 3-6, 6-1 and Latvian Anastasija Sevastova, who defeated Australian Samantha Stosur with a score of 6-1, 4-6, 6-3.
