The photography exhibition "Candombe - The Afro-Uruguayan Rhythm," created by Uruguayan photojournalists Gaston Britos and Jorge Idiarte Borda, will be on display from July 18 to August 17 at the "Dimitrie Gusti" Village National Museum.
According to a press release from the Village Museum sent to AGERPRES on Thursday, the exhibition, accompanied by the screening of the documentary film "Quinchadores," is organised by the Embassy of Uruguay in Bucharest, in partnership with the host institution, on the occasion of the 90th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Uruguay and Romania and the 195th anniversary of the adoption of the first Constitution of the Oriental Republic of Uruguay (July 18, 1830).
The exhibition offers a visual journey into the world of Candombe, an Afro-Uruguayan cultural expression recognized by UNESCO as intangible cultural heritage, reflecting the history, identity, and spirituality of the Afro-descendant community in Uruguay.
The documentary "Quinchadores," which deeply explores the legacy of an ancient craft and an identity passed down through generations, will be screened as follows:
* Saturday, July 19, and Sunday, July 20, from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM, in the "Victor Ion Popa" Hall
Free public access, limited to available seating.
* Wednesday to Friday, in the "Glass Hall," alongside the documentary "Candombe - The Afro-Uruguayan Rhythm"
Through this initiative, the Embassy of Uruguay aims to promote intercultural dialogue and offer the Romanian public the opportunity to discover a valuable part of the country's spiritual heritage, the Village Museum also says.
