Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan received on Monday, at Victoria Palace, a delegation from Nokian Tyres led by Paolo Pompei, the company's president and CEO, to discuss the status of the investment made in Oradea, the framework for implementing the state aid approved by the European Commission, as well as the potential for future expansions of production capacity in Romania.
"During the meeting, the technical and administrative details regarding the payment request for the first tranche of state aid, part of the scheme worth a total of 99.5 million euros, through which the Romanian Government supports the development of the first zero-CO2 tire factory in the world, were analyzed. The factory has a planned annual capacity of 6 million tires, with the possibility of increasing production depending on the evolution of demand on the European market," a Government's press release reads, agerpres reports.
The prime minister stated that this investment confirms Romania's capacity to attract major industrial projects and to be a reliable partner for companies that innovate and create added value.
"The state aid we grant is an instrument through which we support real economic development: additional revenues to the state budget, stable jobs for Romanians and new resources for local communities. We want this collaboration to generate solid and sustainable results for the national economy," said Bolojan, quoted in the press release.
In turn, Paolo Pompei, CEO of Nokian Tyres, expressed his joy at developing this investment in Romania, appreciating the close collaboration with government and local authorities.
"The support provided by the Romanian state has contributed decisively to the rapid completion of the factory in Oradea. We have already created approximately 500 jobs and have started exports to Central and Southern European markets. Romania is becoming a strategic hub for our operations in Europe, through its positioning and the quality of its human resources," Pompei said.
The discussions also focused on the possibility of Romania supporting, at European level, measures to simplify the regulations applicable to the industry, given that European producers are feeling the pressure of high energy costs and excessive bureaucratic norms.
The meeting was also attended by the head of the Prime Minister's Chancellery, Mihai Jurca.
