The National Holocaust Remembrance Day will be will be marked on Thursday in Bucharest, through a ceremony organised by the "Elie Wiesel" National Institute for the Study of the Holocaust in Romania.

According to the "Elie Wiesel" National Institute for the Study of the Holocaust in Romania, 84 years ago, on 9 October 1941, the deportation of Jews from Bessarabia, Southern Bukovina and Northern Bukovina to Transnistria began. In October 1941 alone, over 35,000 Jews, mostly children, elderly and women, from Dorohoi, Suceava, Campulung Moldovenesc, Vatra Dornei, Radauti, Gura Humorului and neighbouring localities were escorted to Transnistria.
"The overall picture of the atrocities tells us about over 300,000 Jews of Romanian or Ukrainian origin who were victims of the Antonescu regime, dying from bullets, cold, hunger or disease; 11,000 Roma exterminated in Transnistria by Romanian authorities as a result of the Antonescu regime's racial policies. (...) The National Holocaust Remembrance Day in Romania offers us an opportunity to recall these experiences and urges us to remain vigilant against manifestations of hatred, to avoid falling into the trap of silence or indifference," the organizers mentioned.
The Traffic Brigade will implement measures to ease traffic flow and prevent road accidents and urges drivers to drive carefully, maintain a safe distance to allow for braking, stop or park only in designated areas, and comply with the signals, instructions and orders of traffic police officers.
