Under an emergency ordinance on Thursday, the Government approved the amending and supplementing of the legislation regarding the status of Police officers related to the organisation and development of police officer career, modification and suspension of employment as well as the filling of job vacancies.
The Government says in a press stament that the measures in the emergency ordinance harmonise the provisions in the status legislation with the rulings of the Constitutional Court of Romania (CCR), regulating, for instance, the types and duration of career training classes as well as the continual professional training of police officers. "The new regulation will allow the training of directly hired. Thus, in the first year of employment, the directly hired officers will have to take a class in career initiation provided by the professional training departments of the Interior Ministry (MAI) that will be at least three months long, while the directly hired or transferred specialists the class will be four weeks long," the statement says.
At the same time, the new regulations mention the instances in which the employment of officers is modified, such as delegation, secondment, participation in international missions, transfer, relocation, while providing general procedures.
As far as filling the job vacancies is concerned, the ordinance regulates the organisation and conduct of competitions as an element of employment initiation and modification.
"The new regulations mention the type of competition differentiated according to whether the jobs are executive or subordinate, the conditions for passing and failing candidates, the ways of setting them apart when they are tied as well as the possibility of challenging the results of the competitions," reads the statement.
