Russia's interference in the recent elections in the Republic of Moldova was one of the main topics discussed during the visit to the Romanian Parliament by a Moldovan delegation led by Igor Grosu.
Deputy Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies Catalin Drula, Senate Secretary Cristian Ghinea, together with the leaders of the Save Romania Union (USR) parliamentary groups, Stefan Palarie and Bogdan Rodeanu, received on Thursday the Speaker of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova, Igor Grosu, the USR announced in a press release.
This was the first parliamentary-level meeting after the elections, and the USR officials congratulated Igor Grosu on the results achieved.
"We appreciated the firmness of the Moldovan authorities in countering Russian informational aggression. It is time to call the aggressor by its name - Russia," they said. "There must be firmness, the money should be followed, institutions allowed to do their job and apply the law," Igor Grosu was quoted as saying in the USR release.
One of the issues raised by the Moldovan delegation concerned the statements and actions of Valeriu Munteanu, Alliance for the Union of Romanians (AUR) deputy and chairman of the Joint Committee for the Integration of the Republic of Moldova into the European Union, "who promoted pro-Russian propaganda during the Moldovan election campaign."
"The USR parliamentary group has requested that Valeriu Munteanu be replaced in this position, considering it absurd that a Russophile should head, on behalf of Romania, the commission for the Republic of Moldova's European integration. Igor Grosu called on the Romanian Parliament to replace Valeriu Munteanu, stating that his presence at the head of the commission renders it dysfunctional and that 'with him at the table, we cannot make progress,'" the USR release said.
Other topics discussed included economic and security cooperation.
The Moldovan delegation also included Lilian Carp, chair of the the Committee on National Security, Defense and Public Order, and Radu Marian, chair of the Parliamentary Committee for Economy, Budget and Finance.
