The Central Electoral Bureau (BEC) has released partial results of Sunday's local elections, from the partial vote count by 16:00 on Tuesday.
In 3,169 of the 3,186 polling stations throughout Romania, the Social Democrat Party (PSD) has 37.62 per cent of the votes for mayors, followed by the National Liberal Party with 32.63pct.
In 1,127 of Bucharest's 1,252 polling stations, PSD's alliance with the National Union for Romania's Progress got 42.14pct, followed by the Save Bucharest Union (USB, who only had candidates in the capital) with 30.46pct.
Elections were held for mayors of all communes, towns and cities, for the local councils, and for the 41 county councils; also, for Bucharest's general mayor and council, and for the mayors and councils of the six districts of the city.
