The National Liberal Party (PNL) has obtained in the local elections on Sunday the best score after 1990, PNL co-chair Vasile Blaga said on Monday.

He added that the result justified the merger of the old PNL with the Democrat Party, to form the new PNL.

"The PNL has obtained in these local elections its best score after 1990. (...). I thank those who trusted the PNL, and also the candidates," said Blaga.

He added that after the count made by 91pct of organizations, PNL won 31pct in the political voting for county councils and over 1,000 mayoralties.

"We have managed to rebuild the Right. It was not easy to refute all the predictions of skeptics," Blaga claimed.

As to the elections in Bucharest, he thanked Catalin Predoiu, who ran for mayor, and the other candidates for their "serious" programmes and solutions.
