Romania is on leading position in the European Union in terms of equality of opportunity between women and men, with a pay gap of 3.5pct, while the EU average stands at 15.2 pct, Labor and Social Justice Minister Marius Budai said on Wednesday before the informal meeting of the Labor and Social Policy Ministers of the EU states.

"I thank the member states for having responded to this organization of the informal meeting of Labor ministers and, in particular, to participate and to debate such an important topic for us, the equality of opportunity between men and women in Romania, where we are proud to say that Romania is at the forefront, as the gender pay gap in Romania is 3.5pct and the EU average stands at 15.2pct," said Marius Budai.
He recalled that the main topic of the meeting is equality of opportunity between women and men.
"Romania, as President of the Council of the European Union, is organizing for two days the informal meeting of Employment and Social Policy Ministers from all EU countries. The main topic for today is equality of opportunity between women and men. It is a a priority of Romania's presidency of the Council of the European Union," added the Romanian Minister of Labor.
Marius Budai mentioned in context that in three months the Ministry of Labor has reached all four vital directions for the citizens of the European Union, namely ensuring better and safer working conditions for all citizens of the European Union, ensuring and facilitating the workforce mobility across the European Union, equality of opportunity between women and men and the balance between work and the private lives of EU citizens.
The Romanian Presidency of the Council of the EU is organizing the informal meeting of employment and social policy ministers in Bucharest on Wednesday and Thursday. The event is chaired by the Romanian Minister of Labor and Social Justice, Marius Budai.
