Romania aims to play a proactive role in European politics, having the capacity to directly influence decisions in Brussels, declared on Friday the Minister of Investments and European Projects, Dragos Pislaru.
"Romania aims to have a proactive position regarding European policy. Our country can very easily rise, 18 years after joining the European Union, to not be reactive to what is happening in Brussels and to proactively propose to have a say. We have three ministries that work together excellently, MAE (Ministry of Foreign Affairs, ed.), Ministry of Finance, MIPE (Ministry of Investments and European Projects, ed.). At the same time, we have an extremely dedicated European Commissioner (Roxana Mînzatu, ed.), who does not represent Romania's interest, but knows the problems we have. We have one of the two negotiators of the multiannual financial framework, who is Romanian, Siegfried Muresan, who again does not represent Romania's position, but that of Parliament. European, but he knows the reality in Romania. The Chairman of the Regional Development Committee in the Parliament is a Romanian, Mr. MEP Dragos Benea. And, given this entire format, Romania can play a role in which we can not just wait to see what is decided in Brussels, but have a say in this debate at the European level," mentioned Dragos Pislaru, at the press statements that took place on the sidelines of the high-level conference on the future of cohesion policy: "Cohesion 2027+: a factor stimulating long-term development, inclusive economic competitiveness and resilience throughout Europe."
According to him, the conference on the future of cohesion policy "marks the beginning of this declared public policy of Romania to contribute".
"We must no longer look at cohesion policy as it was in the past, a policy of catching up only from behind. It is a policy in which Romania affirms its role as an important regional actor in the future of the European Union. When we were in the European Parliament area, we looked at the Council's positions with a bit of envy, because those were the ones who were actually implementing the policies and had a very strong say on the feasibility of the things that were happening. Here, we now have the opportunity, as a member of the Council, as a prominent actor, with a sixth voting power in Parliament and a clear power to participate in the decision, to be truly proactive," added Pîslaru.
The event "Cohesion 2027+: a driver of long-term development, inclusive economic competitiveness and resilience across Europe", which took place on Friday in Bucharest, consolidates Romania's ongoing efforts for a strong future Cohesion Policy, which will remain the EU's main long-term structural investment policy, in support of harmonious development and the elimination of development gaps, note the organizers.
