The Minister of Internal Affairs with the Government of the Republic of Moldova, Ana Revenco, calls for emergency assistance from the member states of the European Union, in order to face the wave of Ukrainian refugees, against the background of the war in Ukraine.

In an interview with AGERPRES, the Minister of Internal Affairs from Chisinau talks about the pressure of refugees at the eastern borders of the Republic of Moldova, but also about the way she is collaborating with the Romanian authorities on this subject.

"Moldova has not encountered such situations for 30 years. We learn, we create on the go, we evaluate, we adjust, we correct. And this every day. We need, we need expertise, knowledge, information, the experience of those who have managed such phenomena and who understand, know the pressure on the internal affairs system," said the official from Chisinau.

Ana Revenco also refers to the involvement of Moldovan citizens, who, according to her, have "opened their homes and arms" to help Ukrainian refugees.

According to the Moldovan minister, there is a lot of pressure on the entire internal affairs system.

"With this massive exodus, which is driven by war, the system is running at full speed, which is why we need support from external partners here as well," says Revenco.

Ana Revenco says "We have addressed and talked to several development partners in the European Union. We were assured that assistance is close, but time is already playing against us. We understand that the flow will continue and there is still a lot of pressure on the internal affairs system. "

Obviously, the Moldovan Minister of Internal Affairs relies on the support of the Romanian authorities.

"From the very first day I was in contact with my counterpart, Mr. Lucian Bode, we have operationalized a common cell quite quickly. It allows us to exchange, in real time, information, analyses, to adjust where intervention is necessary, because the emphasis we are placing now, as an authority, is to facilitate transit corridors so that refugees do not stop in their way, those who intend to pursue it. At the same time, we also ensure their safety, and here it is very important to have an agreement with our colleagues from Romania so that the crossings on the Romanian side will be smooth enough.

"Moldova is a small country, but with good-hearted people. That is why the first wave, so to speak, was taken by my citizens, my fellow citizens. Many families, many volunteers opened their homes and arms. That's why a lot of people are now in families, in households. It is certain that there are a lot of families with friends, relatives, cousins...", Ana Revenco adds.

"Today, we have more than 100,000 Ukrainian citizens here in the Republic of Moldova alone. Most of them are Ukrainians now stationed here in the Republic of Moldova. At the same time, hundreds of thousands of people have passed through our borders from east to west."
