The Embassy of Romania in Italy, in collaboration with the prestigious research and post-graduate studies institute Societa Italiana per l'Organizzazione Internazionale (SIOI) in Rome, organized on November 7 at the SIOI headquarters at Palazzetto di Venezia the conference titled "Black Sea: Opportunities and Challenges for Euro-Atlantic Security", with the participation of Black Sea Economic Cooperation Organization Secretary General Lazar Comanescu.
The conference moderated by journalist Giorgio Rutelli and opened by Romanian ambassador to Italy Gabriela Dancau and SIOI president, ambassador Riccardo Sessa, brought together important speakers from various sectors, who highlighted the strategic importance of the Black Sea for regional, European and Euro-Atlantic security, as well as the stakes of developments in this area for the rules-based international order.
Addressing the panel on political and security cooperation were Secretary General of the Organization for Economic Cooperation Lazar Comanescu, Director General of the International Center for Black Sea Studies Georgios Mitrakos, and Admiral Massimiliano Lauretti, Head of the Maritime Operations and Strategy Department of the Italian Navy General Staff.
The second panel, focused on the role of the Black Sea in ensuring European energy security, brought together economic experts: analyst Radu Magdin, Laurentiu Pachiu - representative of the Romanian think tank New Strategy Center - NSC, Fabrizio Fabbri - Ansaldo Energia CEO, and Ernesto Ferlenghi, representative of energy and engineering company Saipem.
The event, which enjoyed the participation of a broad audience that included ambassadors, representatives of the diplomatic corps, defense attachés, representatives of the academic and business environment, and Italian students was also intended as a Romanian - Italian contribution to promoting the Black Sea strategic valences from the perspective of the region-specific themes, and in the light of the connections with the Mediterranean East, with the contribution of representatives of the institutional, academic and research milieu.
