In a 92-to-26 vote on Tuesday, the Senate denied the request of the National Anticorruption Directorate to prosecute Senator Titus Corlatean (Social Democrat) for the organisation of the 2014 presidential elections abroad. The prosecution alleges that Corlatean, then minister of foreign affairs, has taken decisions resulting in hindering Romanians abroad to cast their vote.
Romanian MPs can be prosecuted only if their chamber of the Parliament approves.
