Secretary of State for Romanians Abroad Petre Guran said on Thursday that the diaspora is part of the nation, regardless of where it is, pointing out that the country's officials have a duty to offer it a pact for Romania's development.
According to a press statement by the Foreign Affairs Ministry (MAE) , Guran on Thursday chaired the 13th meeting of the Interinstitutional Consultative Council for Romanians Abroad, organised by MAE.
"The secretary of state underscored the importance of the contribution Romanian Diaspora can bring to the overall development of the country and the need to interest them in a partnership with the Romanian state, which should provide them with the arguments in favour of a strong involvement in and increased closeness to the country," the statement reads.
The participants warned that there are a great number of programmes that can include Romanians abroad too, but which "must be made known to them through an efficient communication strategy," as well as numerous opportunities provided by the existing European and national programmes.
The Interinstitutional Consultative Council for Romanians Abroad represents a form of dialogue and organisational cooperation, on an informal level, periodically gathering representatives of Romanian institutions responsible for overseas Romanians.
