Culture, media unionists, culture minister agree to complete collective bargaining by March 31

The culture minister and representative culture and media trade union federations have agreed that the negotiation of the collective labour agreement will be completed by March 31, and all interested parties can submit proposals by March 20 at the latest, the FAIR-MediaSind Federation reported on Tuesday.

Following the official procedure initiated by the Culture Federation and the Media FAIR-MediaSind, a second meeting for the conclusion of the collective labour agreement within the culture sector was held on Tuesday, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Culture.

The meeting was attended by the Minister of Culture, Natalia - Elena Intotero, and representatives of the national trade union confederations, as well as of several cultural organisations.

The delegation of the Ministry of Culture was led by Madalin Voicu, and the delegation of the FAIR-MediaSind Federation was made up of chairman Leonard Octavian Paduret, Executive Chairman Cristinel Godinac (virtual), Deputy Chairman Adrian Ionescu, Secretary General Gabriel Nastase, together with Traian Tarc, leader of the Cluj Napoca Hungarian Opera Union (virtual), Rares Sangiorzan, deputy chairman (virtual), Cristian Fulga, the union leader of the Oleg Danovski National Opera and Ballet Theatre in Constanta (virtual), assisted by the organisation's lawyer, Dan Iordache.

"In order to secure total transparency of the negotiation process, the representatives of the Ministry of Culture and those of the representative federations have agreed that by March 20, at 12:00, they will centralise all proposals from organisations and institutions that do not have representatives in this negotiation, and on Monday, March 24, 2025, they will start the actual negotiations, based on the draft agreement officially sent by the FAIR-MediaSind Federation."

At the proposal of the Minister of Culture, Natalia-Elena Intotero, the parties agreed that the conclusion of the collective agreement should be completed by March 31, the trade union federation said.

According to her, the draft sent as early as February 3 to the culture minister contains important rules for a working climate at European level, professional regulations, but also fundamental rights that guarantee work security for all employees in the field of culture, regulation of the work schedule, travel and secondment, the operation of the ethics and discipline board, ensuring effective professional training plan.

So far, the FAIR-MediaSind Federation has negotiated collective bargaining agreements or opened negotiation procedures in several institutions in the Culture and Media sectors, including the Bucharest National Opera, the Romanian Television Corporation, the Romanian Radio Broadcasting Company, the Romanian Radio Broadcasting Agency, the AGERPRES National News Agency, the Hungarian Opera in Cluj-Napoca, the Paul Constantinescu State Philharmonic in Ploiesti, The Lower Danube Cultural Centre in Galati, the Romanian Opera in Craiova, the Ariel Ramnicu Valcea Theatre, the Maria Tanase Folklore Ensemble in Craiova, the Regina Maria Theatre in Oradea, the Ion D. Sarbu Petrosani Theatre, the Moldova Philharmonic Iasi, the Alexandru Davila Theatre in Pitesti, the Culture Directorate of Bucharest, the Brukenthal National Museum in Sibiu, the Sibiu County Directorate for Culture.

The FAIR-MediaSind Federation is the only representative organization, according to the law, in the fields of Culture and Mass-Media, being a full member of the International Federation of Journalists, the International Federation of Musicians, the International Federation of Actors, UNI Global UNION, the European Federation of Journalists, UNI MEI and the national member of CNSLR-Fratia.
