Health Minister Alexandru Rafila announced on Thursday that over 2,500 family medicine offices will be modernised within a month and a half, allowing patients to undergo electrocardiograms (EKGs) and ultrasound exams.
'The Ministry of Health is responsible for health policies and investments in the healthcare system. I just want to mention that soon, within a month or a month and a half, we will complete the modernisation and equipping of over 2,500 family medicine offices across the country. This time, the doctor's offices will be staffed with doctors and will offer diagnostic capabilities. We are talking about EKG machines, ultrasound devices, and other equipment that allow for a different kind of consultation compared to the traditional one, where the stethoscope and blood pressure monitor were the only tools available to a family doctor. (...) Beyond the investment aspect, the most important thing is that we are constantly sending a strong signal that we care about prevention,' said Rafila during the launch of the national campaign 'Health Has No Age,' organised by the Romanian Institute for Active Aging Association, with support from the Ministry of Culture and the Ana Aslan International Foundation.
He pointed out that chronic diseases, including cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, diabetes, nutritional disorders and cancer, affect a large part of Romania's population, and emphasised the importance of vaccination.
'We have the ability to prevent. Regular medical checkups can help detect these diseases at early stages, making treatment easier and less debilitating for patients. This needs to gradually become a habit for us. (...) Lifestyle, physical activity, and our diet are essential for maintaining health as long as possible and for slowing down or even halting the progression of some chronic illnesses,' Rafila added.
