The Joint Standing Committee of the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate on the relationship with UNESCO and AGERPRES National News Agency on Wednesday concluded a collaboration protocol for the promotion of Romania's heritage values.

The protocol, concluded during the current parliamentary term, was signed by Chair of the UNESCO Parliamentary Committee Dumitrita Gliga and Director General of the AGERPRES National News Agency Claudia Nicolae.

"It is our duty to keep intact the cultural riches that define the national identity and the values of the Romanian people, having the responsibility to preserve them for future generations. These assets are a gift of our ancestors, and our obligation is to promote and protect them with due respect and devotion," Gliga said in a social media post.

"AGERPRES has the duty and responsibility to support the values that define our national identity. Through the dedicated articles, we aim to bring Romania's living heritage closer to the public," the AGERPRES director general said in her turn in a social media post.

An important point of the discussions was support for "Cobza - traditional making and repertoire," which stands a chance of being added to the UNESCO intangible heritage at the session of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage this year, as shown by the chair of the parliamentary committee.

In this regard, AGERPRES would disseminate stories about the history, making and traditional repertoire of the cobza, highlighting the craftsmen and artists who use it, conduct interviews with ethnomusicologists, craftsmen, artists and representatives of cultural organisations involved in this endeavour, transmit information about events, festivals and initiatives related to the promotion of the cobza.

"Through these actions, AGERPRES can secure the necessary visibility for the official recognition of 'Cobza - traditional making and repertoire,' as part of the UNESCO intangible heritage," according to Gliga.
