DefMin Motoc meets Moldovan counterpart Salaru

Minister of National Defence Mihnea Motoc has met, on Thursday, his Moldovan counterpart Anatol Salaru who is in Romania as a guest to the military parade organized on the occasion of Romania's National Day.

The Defence Ministry (MApN) informs, in a release remitted to agerpres, that Motoc has expressed gratitude regarding the fact that this year, too, the Republic of Moldova Army has ensured a detachment of 34 servicemen that have marched as part of the parade.

The discussions between the two ministers regarded aspects relating to the regional security situation, bilateral and regional cooperation in the defence domain, as well as the support granted by Romania for the European integration of the Republic of Moldova, the quoted source mentions.

"The two officials discussed concrete ways to intensify bilateral cooperation in the defence domain, in view of continuing the European path of the Republic of Moldova. On this occasion, Minister Mihnea Motoc mentioned that Romania will continue to grant expertise and support for the reform process ongoing within the Armed Forces of the Republic of Moldova, in what regards defence planning, conduct of exercises and joint preparation activities, as well as specialty training," the MApN informs.

Furthermore, the Romanian Defence Minister emphasized that Romania will continue to support Moldova in the process of intensifying the cooperation relations with the North Atlantic Alliance and the EU. On the topic of NATO, the Minister reiterated Romania's support for the implementation of the Allied plan for consolidation of defence capabilities. On the topic of the EU, Motoc mentioned that the development of the security and defence dimension of the Eastern Partnership is very important, in the context of developments in the security environment of the eastern vicinity of the EU, and has encouraged the active involvement of R. Moldova in actions ran under the aegis of the Common Security and Defence Policy.

On this occasion, the two officials signed the Protocol to amend the Agreement between the Governments of Romania and the Republic of Moldova regarding military cooperation, signed in Chisinau on April 20, 2012.
