The parliamentary committee inquiring into the 2009 presidential election on Wednesday will send a new letter to Attorney General Augustin Lazar, requesting him to put at the committee's disposal a copy of the file on the poll, PSD MP Oana Florea, committee chair, told agerpres..
"It is actually a summons to the chief prosecutor, under which we practically dismantle all arguments in the letter he sent us through which he denies providing us with a copy of the file, arguing, according to law, through the Constitution and the laws in force and concluding that he is actually exercising his right of an abusive manner, as there is no law preventing him from doing so. Moreover, we agree that there is no obligation provided by law, but by virtue of the collaboration between the institutions, as we both are public institutions and serve the common goal of finding out the truth, we must cooperate," Florea pointed out.
She mentioned that the letter will dismantle "one by one" the arguments of the attorney general in the first letter, as the committee members point to Romania's Constitution, articles in the Code of Criminal Procedure and law 544/2001 on public interest information, as well as CCR rulings 411/2017 and 428.
The General Prosecutor's Office denied on 14 July an initial request of the parliamentary committee inquiring into the 2009 presidential election for a copy of the file opened following journalist Dan Andronic's statements on to the election.
The case was closed on July 20, as the facts did not prove to be real, according to the General Prosecutor's Office.
