Premier Mihai Tudose stated on Wednesday that the reason for the rise in fuel prices is not the extra excise, but the crude barrel's price having surged, also as an effect of the extreme weather in the Gulf of Mexico.
"The fuel price did not rise because of the extra excise. If you perform an analysis on the rise in the crude oil price under the influence of weather phenomena in the Gulf of Mexico, you'll see that - just as we assumed and predicted - the excise duty is not the cause for it. The [haulers] invoke a similitude with other EU countries where a part of the excise is returned to the transport companies. We agreed to have a discussion when we met the month before, we continue discussions with them. They threaten strike? What shall we do, forbid them to?", Mihai Tudose said in the Victoriei Square of Government where he made joint statements with Cartel Alfa union leader Bogdan Hossu, when asked about the request of Romanian haulers who threaten new protests if the government does not scrap the extra excise on fuel.
