Romania's Deputy Prime Minister Vasile Dincu said Monday in Satu Mare County that it is Romania's duty to support Moldova so that the two countries may find themselves together inside an enlarged European Union, adding that this is not done in the streets or when campaigning for elections.
"I know the associations advocating for reunification from Moldova and Romania alike; generally, they are made up of young students who have somehow managed to overcome the force imprinted by politicians to such projects. Of course, these are not projects to be unfolded in the streets, and we, as politicians, should listen to the students' messages as well. I believe the project for Romania meeting Moldova either inside an enlarged European Union or in a different historical context should not be abandoned by Romanian politicians, but that is a project that is not done by statement, and not necessarily when campaigning for elections; it should mean Romania's continual support for Moldova, for Moldova's accession to the European Union, for infrastructure and a better life there," Dincu said after a meeting with the local administration of northern Negresti Oas.
He added that it is important for Romania to support Moldova in any circumstances, reunification or not.
"It is our duty. We can call it anything: some may call it reunification, others may call it something else, but it is very important for us to support Moldova in any circumstances, reunification or not, as we ought to do our best for Moldova, the same we do for all of Romania's inhabitants," said Dincu.
