Giurgiu border policemen discovered on Friday morning, seven Turkish and two Syrian citizens, who intended to illegally enter the country, while hiding in a merchandise compartment of a truck from Turkey loaded with cleaning products, according to a release of the Inspectorate General of the Border Police (IGPF) sent to agerpres.
"On 14 October 2016, around 03:00 hrs, at the Giurgiu Border Crossing Point, a Turkish citizen Hasan A., aged 45 years, driving a truck registered in Turkey, arrived, on the way of entering the country, for border crossing formalities. He was carrying, according to the merchandise accompanying documents, cleaning products from Turkey for a company in Poland," the release of the IGPF reveals.
The border policemen in Giurgiu decided, based on a risk analysis, to do a search on the truck with the help of a CO2 detection device, which indicated values over normal. Therefore, the merchandise compartment was opened and verified, occasion which led to the discovery of nine males, hiding inside the compartment, over the merchandise bags.
"During the preliminary investigations, it was established that the men, with ages between 16 and 51 years, are Turkish and Syrian citizens, and the truck driver stated that he wasn't aware of the men's presence in his merchandise compartment. According to the Romanian -Bulgarian protocol, the means of transportation, the driver and the migrants were taken by the Bulgarian Border Police in order to continue the investigation and to enforce the necessary legal measures," the release added.
