The resigning deputies and senators from the Young People's Party (POT) announced that they remain independent, although they have offers from several parties, and will promote European values, including in the discussions convened by President Nicuşor Dan at Cotroceni Palace.
In a press conference held at Parliament, deputy Aurora-Tasica Simu read a joint statement in which the POT resigners declared themselves "united and determined" to work for the good of Romania and denounced the dictatorship imposed by the POT leadership. Currently, there are 11 unaffiliated deputies and senators from this formation, after 12 resigned.
"The partisanship, hooliganism and lack of communication must stop. We are obliged to answer to you, those who gave us trust by voting. The press must be the guarantor of decision-making transparency and of our daily activity, even if, unfortunately, some leaders have forgotten this," the deputy declared.
Among the reasons listed are: 'dictatorship manifested through the excessive authoritarian and arrogant attitude of a leader who compromised the idea of team and internal democracy'; 'total lack of financial transparency, especially regarding the way in which public subsidies were managed, intended to support the development of the party and local organizations'; 'mismanagement of funds from member contributions, without consultation, without justification and without accountability'.
Another reason is "the non-transparent appointment of representatives in polling stations, in contradiction with the promises made to loyal members who worked unconditionally for the party", as well as "aggressive and unacceptable behavior towards colleagues and journalists", behavior that "brought serious damage to our collective image".
"A regrettable episode that must be left behind. However, it was a lesson. A painful one, but apparently necessary. We learned exactly what we should not do. We do not want scandal, we do not want extremism and division. These practices must stop. (...) We will continue to remain a monolithic, unitary and united group, we will maintain the direction we initially set out on and we will see the projects through to completion. I want one thing to be very clear: we will not go to other parties. Each representative from a political party came towards us, but we were very clear and very firm that we will continue to remain this united, monolithic group, we will move forward with the projects we have and we are not going in one direction or another. (...) We will see exactly the political direction we will take. We are people who have the same values, the same beliefs. We will walk on a common path (...). It is a balanced group. It is a pro-Romanian, pro-European, pro-NATO group. (...) They came from almost all the parties to ask us," Aurora Simu said.
Asked if there were offers, including from PSD and USR, she confirmed: "Yes. In principle, everyone asked us the same thing as you: what is the direction we want to take and, yes, they made it clear to us that there is room for us almost anywhere. We did not reach positions, seats, positions, because from the start we expressed our desire to remain a unitary, monolithic group, which did not leave this party for positions, for money, for positions."
Regarding an offer from AUR, Aurora Simu says that it is not about "necessarily" joining the parliamentary group, but rather "a possible collaboration in the future".
Asked if she received an offer from Claudiu Târziu, the deputy mentioned: "I don't know how to tell you at this moment if it came from Mr. Târziu... I don't know. There were talks from several directions with several colleagues and I really don't have all the information together."
The resigning parliamentarians will go to Cotroceni in the new formula, with "a unified message".
"We came out of a party where we experienced a kind of dictatorship and most decisions were imposed on us. We will all go with a unified message, but we all want to participate in these discussions," Aurora Simu stated.
Simu showed that both she and her colleagues were not consulted when they were members of the POT regarding the decisions that were subsequently made."
"We were only informed, at best, or we found out from the press," she said.
However, POT's support for candidate Călin Georgescu was assumed and not imposed in a dictatorial manner.
"It was the only decision, the only poll expressed in a transparent manner. (...) Our departure had nothing to do with the election result. We had several moments when we wanted to leave, but they were not the right moments for various reasons."AGERPRES
