Justice Minister Tudorel Toader said that the documentation for the extradition of former deputy Sebastian Ghita was sent to the Justice Ministry in Serbia on Wednesday and the Romanian authorities applied a procedure stipulated in the treaty with this country of extending the deadline for the transmission of the necessary documents.

"This is a common procedure, there is this Article 16 of the Treaty that stipulates the possibility to extend (transmission of documentation) from 18 to 40 days, in order to prevent the possibility of exceeding the term and releasing those in the respective situation. A precautionary measure that I sent a long time ago, and the Supreme Court approved it. We sent all the documentation to the Serbian Ministry of Justice, it has 475 pages, it has been translated in due time, with constant effort and it was registered at the Ministry of Justice of Serbia. As of now, that is yesterday at 13:30 hrs, the Justice Ministry of Romania has fulfilled its obligations," Minister Toader stated on Thursday.

Asked by journalists how long the extradition procedure could take, he did not answer.
