Mihai Traistariu and Xandra - among semi-finalists of Eurovision National Selection

Mihai Traistariu, Xandra, Tavi Colen and Emma are among the semi-finalists of the Eurovision National Selection, the pre-selection's winners of this contest being announced on Sunday.

Ioana Voicu and Dan Helciug presented the 15 semifinalists of Eurovision Romania, in a live show broadcasted by TVR 2 and TVR HD TV public broadcasters. The semi-finalists went up on the stage prepared at the TVR studio and were called by artists who, across the years, represented Romania at the Eurovision and by TVR stars.

In the order of announcement, the qualified artists for the preselection of the Eurovision National Selection are: Elize & No Stress - "No boundaries" ("Fara bariere"), Cristina Vasiu - "Set the Skies on Fire", Tudor Turcu - "Limitless", Ramona Nerra - "Save Me", Ana Maria Miria - "Tell me" ("Spune-mi tu"), Instinct - "Petals" ("Petale"), D-lema - "Adventure", Ilinca feat. Alex Florea - "Yodel It", Tavi Colen and Emma - "We own the night", Zanga - "Two bottles" ("Doua sticle"), Maxim - "Remember" ("Adu-ti aminte"), Eduard Santha - "Wild Child", Mihai Traistariu - "I Won't Surrender", Alexandra Craescu - "Hope", Xandra - "Walk on By".

Zanga entered in the preselection of the National Selection with "Two bottles", after the withdrawal of singer Lora from Eurovision Romania contest. The latter was selected in the pre-selection, before announcing her withdrawal from the contest, according the presenters of the TVR show.

The semifinalists were chosen by jury following the auditions that took place at the end of January.

The five jurors are Luminita Anghel, Ovi Jacobsen, Adrian Romcescu, Paula Seling and Andrei Tudor.

The competitors will fight for the ticket on the stage in Kiev at the Semi-Final on 26 February, the Final of Eurovision Romania is scheduled for March 5.

On the semifinal from 26 February, the members of the jury will elect ten finalist songs, on March 5 the winner of the National Pre-selection will be exclusively designated by the public, by televoting.

Eurovision is an international musical contest, organized by the European Broadcasting Union, the biggest association of public broadcasters in Europe.

The first edition took place in 1956, in Lugano, in Switzerland. It was broadcasted uninterruptedly, for 60 years, and the show became one of the oldest and most watched TV show programs in the world.

The Romanian Television (TVR), member of the EBU, is the organizer of the National Selection and participates at the European Contest since 1993.

The best performances for Romania at this contest were: two times third place (Luminita Anghel & Sistem - Kiev, 2005; Paula Seling and Ovi - Oslo, 2010) and one time the fourth place (Mihai Traistariu - Athens, 2006).

The Romanian song with the highest score obtained at the Eurovision Final (172 points) is "Tornero", composed by Eduard Circota and sang by Mihai Traistariu.

Eurovision Song Contest 2017 will take place in Kiev, with the semifinals on May 9 and 11 and the final on May 13. Alongside Romania, another 42 countries are registered for the contest.
