Senate approves draft on technical and financial assistance for Moldovan local public authorities
The Senate adopted on Wednesday, in plenary session, the legislative proposal on the establishment of a technical and financial assistance fund for development for local public authorities in the Republic of Moldova.
The draft law, initiated by a group of National Liberal Party (PNL), Social Democratic Party (PSD) and Hungarian Democratic Union of Romania (UDMR) senators, stipulates that the financial package for the operation of the fund, in the period 2022-2025, is in the amount of 10 million euros, with the possibility of supplementing it by government decision.
Also, a minimum of 3% of the amount committed to the project will be used by the beneficiary to carry out information and publicity measures for the project in the Republic of Moldova, with Romania's financial contribution being highlighted, both during and after the implementation period.
The projects will be implemented between a local public authority in the Republic of Moldova and a local public authority in Romania in a relationship of trust with the beneficiary of the funding. The project period may end no later than 30 June 2025.
The initiators point out in the explanatory memorandum that the project is intended that "in the spirit of Romania's firm commitment to continue to provide the citizens of the Republic of Moldova with direct, consistent and disinterested support, part of the amount not accessed by the Government of the Republic of Moldova will be available to local public authorities through the fund established by this legislative proposal."
The legislative proposal will be debated by the Chamber of Deputies, the decision-making body in this case.
