PNL's leader Orban: liberals should not expect coming to power but period of work

The National Liberal Party (PNL) is not fighting with a party on ideas, but with "a dictatorial party", and liberals should expect coming to power, but a long effort and a period of work in which they must give their best, said the party's chairman Ludovic Orban on Sunday.

He denounced at the congress of young liberals those PNL members who are appointed to the Tudose Government, but who are part of the staff of this event.

"You are my colleagues, you are my PNL partners, you are the PNL's present and the future of the PNL, but I do not like TNL members to be deleted from PNL membership after they have worked in tens of hundreds of campaigns. (...) I also do not like members of the PNL to be appointed to the Tudose Government and, especially, the members who are members of the organization committee of the congress to be in this situation, to be appointed under-secretaries of state. (...) we are not fighting with a normal party that fights with us in ideas, but we fight a dictatorial party that uses state institutions to hurt all those who have the courage to criticize, oppose and persuade people that they are not good and that they lead the country in the wrong direction," Orban said.

"We are not expecting advantages, we do not expect divisions of office, we should expect coming to power but a long and intense effort, we are waiting for a period of work, dedication, a time when we have to give our best to succeed in raising the PNL to the position it deserves, namely the position of the first party on the political stage," the liberals' leader said.

More than 930 delegates gathered on Sunday at the Parliament Palace to elect the new leadership of young liberals. The three candidates are Mara Mares, Radu Surugiu and Vlad Varga.
