The show 'The Choice' based on a one-act play written in 1960 in Versoix by King Mihai I and Queen Anne will be presented for the very first time on Friday at the "Marin Sorescu" National Theater in Craiova, with Princess Sofia in attendance, a release informs, told Agerpres.
The show is directed by Alexandru Boureanu and Raluca Paun, Lia Dogaru designed the scenography, the music is composed and performed live by AG Weinberger, Florin Constantinescu did the video design, and the cast is made up of actors of the Craiova National Theater Claudiu Mihail, Marian Politic, Gabriel Marciu, Raluca Paun and the child Vladimir Politic.
"That night we started to write our lives: his life under communism, my life amidst a frivolous world. And then, together, we discovered a common character, the friend, who came with a third world, with a third voice. The voice of cleanness, of purity. We kept on writing and the lines came naturally to lay down on paper. The entire story was thus written together; with our interwoven thoughts, ideas, fantasy. Just as we had done until then in real life, as we have done ever since. We talked, we wrote, we showed each other what we had written on our own ... It's curious, we both wrote without being able to stop. We were inspired! We called the play 'The Choice'. We wrote it first in English, then in French and, years later, also in Romanian. But we couldn't find an end to it. And that's because we didn't know what answer to give to this world, how to contribute ourselves to the healing of the wounds that had hurt us too. The ending came from the soul and mind of both of us, sitting and reflecting together. The solution was (...) love. That's what we decided to do with the characters and our play story: direct them towards love," Queen Anne confessed in the volume "A War, an Exile, a Life".
The play is loaded with significance and raises issues of a philosophical nature, in a world caught in the struggle between two opposing ideologies. "Here we also see the inner struggle of man caught between his weaknesses and his virtues. Good in opposition to Evil. Darkness to Light. And the choice, our salvation, can only be Love," the description of the show reads.
'The Choice' is an invitation to reflection, a moving play about man and his place in the universe, about the spirit, passions and temptations of the human being, it is specified in the presentation handout.
The next performance of the play is set on November 22, from 6:00 p.m.

The show is staged as part of the "Educating Together" cultural-educational program that unfolds between 2022 and 2026 and is aimed at children from Craiova and the Oltenia Region, seeking to enrich their cultural and history education.
Under the said project, the Peles National Museum will mount a series of exhibitions: "Maria of Romania. Queen and Artist", "King Carol I. Founder of Modern Romania", "Carol II of Romania. A Controversial King", "Mihai I. The Last King of Romania".
The first exhibition - "Maria of Romania. Queen and Artist" will be open to visitors between November 18, 2022 - March 31, 2023 and includes objects that belonged to Queen Maria and informative materials regarding her life and activity.
